By Matt Neglia

Marvel Studios has released the teaser trailer for “Thor: Love And Thunder” starring Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson & Taiki Waititi (who also returns to direct after helming “Thor: Ragnarok“). The film is set to open in theaters on July 8th, 2022.

Plot Synopsis: The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

What do you all think of the trailer? Setting the trailer to Guns N’ Roses’ classic song “Sweet Child Of Mine” is a nice touch as it fits the established tone Waititi brought to “Thor: Ragnarok.” This looks to be an interesting journey for the character as he seems to be stepping away from the Avengers and looking to live a peaceful life, which will obviously get disrupted by Gorr The God Butcher. However, Christian Bale was held back from being shown here. I’m curious as to why that is? Unfinished visual effects, or are they simply building up the anticipation? Although Natalie Portman’s return to the franchise was not held back, it was held until the teaser’s last moment, giving us some exciting insight into where Jane Foster and Thor’s relationship is heading next. After the chemistry was established between the Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor in “Avengers: Infinity War,” I cannot wait to see how the characters all bounce off of each other as the “Asgardians Of The Galaxy” in this latest film. This teaser did exactly what it was supposed to do after the character of Thor was given new life by Wait, making this next film probably the most anticipated standalone Thor film yet.
