The 2017 Best Documentary Shortlist

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the 15 films that will go on to compete for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. Notable exclusions include “Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond,” “Cries From Syria” “Step” & “Kedi.”

The Academy’s Documentary Branch determined the shortlist in a preliminary round of voting from 170 films that were originally submitted. Documentary Branch members will now select the five nominees from among the 15 titles.
