Not watching the SAG Awards alone this year? Looking to impress those around you with more than your predictions? Check out the people and films below who could potentially make history at this year’s SAG Awards.
Alfie Allen: Should “Jojo Rabbit” and “Game of Thrones” both win Ensemble, Allen would make history as only the third person to do so. Steve Carell made history as the first by winning as part of the Ensembles for “Little Miss Sunshine” and “The Office” in 2007. Sterling K. Brown followed winning for “Black Panther” and “This Is Us” in 2019.
Leonardo DiCaprio (“Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”): DiCaprio has never been a part of an Ensemble winner with four previous losses for “Marvin’s Room,” “Titanic,” “The Aviator,” and “The Departed.” He has another chance this year with “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.”
“Ford v Ferrari”: A win in the Stunt category for “Ford v Ferrari” would be the first for a film about car racing after “Fast & Furious 6” and “Baby Driver” came up short.
Jamie Foxx (“Just Mercy”): Foxx would make history as the first actor to win for playing a real-life person after previously winning for “Ray” in 2005 if he wins Best Supporting Actor for “Just Mercy.”
“The Irishman” or “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”: Should either film win both Best Ensemble and Stunts they would be the second film to do so after “Black Panther.” If “The Irishman” wins it would be the first for a Scorsese film after two previous nominations and losses for “The Aviator” and “The Departed.” Should “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” win Ensemble, Tarantino would be the first director to have two films win. The first was for “Inglorious Bastards” in 2019 (also starring Brad Pitt).
“Joker”: Should Joaquin Phoenix win for his portrayal of the titular character of “Joker” this would be the second win for the role after Heath Ledger won for Supporting Actor for “The Dark Knight” in 2009. Additionally, this would be the only role to win twice and not have at least one win on the television side. The role of Sir Winston Churchill has two wins: one on the film side for Gary Oldman (“Darkest Hour”) and on the television side for John Lithgow (“The Crown”). But no role has won more than Queen Elizabeth II with three wins: one on the film side for Helen Mirren (“The Queen”) and twice on the television side for Claire Foy (“The Crown”). Should Phoenix win Lead Actor and Stunts it would be only the second time a film won an individual acting award and the stunt category – ironically the first being Heath Ledger and “The Dark Knight” in 2009.
Marvel: If “Avengers: Endgame” wins Stunts it would be the second win in a row for the studio after “Black Panther” won last year.
“Parasite”: A win for Ensemble for Bong Joon-ho’s “Parasite” would be a first for a film in a foreign language. “Life is Beautiful” is the only previous foreign language film nominated losing to “Shakespeare in Love” in 1999. Should “Parasite” win it would join “The Full Monty” and “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” as the only films to win Ensemble without being nominated for an additional award.
Luke Perry: Perry would make history as the first person to win as part of an Ensemble posthumously for “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood“
Charlize Theron (“Bombshell”): Theron would be the first actress to win twice in the lead category for playing a real-life person after previously winning for “Monster” in 2004 if she wins for her leading turn in “Bombshell.”
Renée Zellweger (“Judy”): Zellweger could make history as the first woman to pick up three individual wins after previously picking up trophies for “Chicago” in 2003 and “Cold Mountain” a year later for her performance in “Judy.”
