The Upside

After being referred to as “Untitled Bryan Cranston/Kevin Hart Film” for so long, the Weinstein Company remake of “The Intouchables” has a name and more details released. The film will be titled “The Upside” and will have its world premiere this Fall at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The movie will be directed by Neil Burger (“The Illusionist,” “Limitless,” “Divergent”) with a script from Jon Hartmere (this looks to be his first screenplay to hit production). The French film it is adapting, “The Intouchables,” ended up being a massive hit for The Weinstein Company, making over $400 million worldwide. Variety gives synopsis for the American remake as follows,

“The remake chronicles the unexpected friendship between Cranston’s character, a Park Avenue billionaire left paralyzed after a hang-gliding accident, and Hart’s character, who plays a convicted felon recently released from prison and in need of a job and a fresh start. The duo form an unlikely bond, bridging their differences and gaining invaluable wisdom in the process.”

It would make sense to expect an awards play here when you see the Weinstein logo and Oscar-friendly plot synopsis, but that is not the case. Though the film will debut at TIFF this September, “The Upside” will hit theaters on March 9, 2018.

Produced by Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Harvey Weinstein, “The Upside” will also feature Nicole Kidman and Amara Karan. What do you guys think? Are you a fan of 2011’s “The Intouchables?” Are you looking forward to the American remake? Let us know in the comments below!

I love movies so much I evidently hate them. Wants to run a production company.
