“Goodbye Christopher Robin” looks to hit that sweet spot between informational and (highly) emotional. Directed by Simon Curtis (“Woman in Gold,” “My Week With Marilyn”), the film tells the story of author A.A. Milne (Domhall Gleeson) as he learns about the world of Winnie the Pooh via his relationship with his son Christopher Robin. Margot Robbie plays his wife and Kelly MacDonald (the voiceover in the trailer) will be Christopher’s nanny.
I am getting a strong “Saving Mr. Banks” vibe from the trailer, and that is not a bad thing by any stretch of the imagination. There is a real opportunity to create a “story behind the story” type of movie. The fact that Winnie the Pooh was created in the midst of some post-WWII sadness only heightens the character’s welcome whimsy. Check out the official synopsis below,
