By Matt Neglia

Netflix today released the first photos for their upcoming Oscar contender “Mank,” directed by David Fincher, his first feature film for the streaming studio (after previously helming television shows “House Of Cards” & “Mindhunter”) and his first feature film since 2014’s “Gone Girl.” The screenplay was written by Fincher’s father Jack Fincher before his death in 2003.

The plot synopsis is: 1930s Hollywood is re-evaluated through the eyes of scathing social critic and alcoholic screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz as he races to finish the screenplay of “Citizen Kane” for Orson Welles. Gary Oldman (“Darkest Hour“) plays Mankiewicz, with Tom Burke (“The Souvenir“) as Orson Welles. Other cast members include Amanda Seyfried (“First Reformed“) as Marion Davies, Lily Collins (“Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile“) as Rita Alexander, Tom Pelphrey (“Ozark”) as Joe Mankiewicz & Charles Dance (“The Imitation Game“) as William Randolph Hearst.

The images were accompanied by this message on Netflix’s Twitter account: JOE (V.O.) Word on the street is radio’s Golden Boy wants to go toe-to-toe with Willie Hearts, and you’re helping in the kitchen.
