Hello Everyone! Yesterday, we released Episode 95 of the Next Best Picture Podcast. On that episode, we put a call out there for any and all voices looking to join the NBP Community. For those who did not hear the call, we are going to re-state it here. We want different perspectives. We want different voices. We want more diversity. We currently have voices from women, men, black, white, and hispanic both in written and podcast form here at Next Best Picture. We want more. We feel our best work comes when we all don't agree and we have to talk through our interpretations of the art form we all so truly love. We want your voice to contribute towards this discussion here at Next Best Picture. To do this, you can either message me on Twitter or shoot me an email. Thank you to everyone who has made this community what it is in such a short span of time. As we approach Episode 100 of the podcast and our celebration of two years of existence, we want to continue to grow and provide a platform for new voices out there searching for an outlet to discuss all things film awards related. We appreciate you. We want to hear from you. Best. Matt Neglia Owner & Editor In Chief for NextBestPicture.com

A new addition we will be bringing to the podcast (For our Patreon subscribers) in the off season as we prepare for the upcoming awards season is a sort of "book club" which we will be calling Next Best Adaptation. We are asking you from now until April 7th to head over to the poll page and vote on the source material you want us to read and discuss on the podcast (Some are sequels to other films, or based on shorts or in one case, a television mini series) as we anticipate the adaptation which will be coming later in the year. We will be selecting the Top 3 Books and we will be reading that book and releasing our podcast review on it every other month. Should a film based on a short or any other form other than a book land in the top 3, we shall review that as well. Regardless, three books shall be read and discussed by Next Best Adaptation on the leadup to the 2018 Awards Season. Any and all feedback is appreciated and we urge you to cast a vote and check out the contenders below. Happy reading!

On the morning Saturday, January 6th, I had the privilege of being able to attend the Academy Makeup branch’s annual nominations bake-off. It is here where the seven short-listed contenders for the Best Makeup & Hairstyling category at the Oscars are each given a chance to show off their stuff before being whittled down to three. Unlike the Visual Effects Bake-off, which was held later that evening, this event is not open to the public, so you need to know either someone who works for or is in the Academy in order to be able to attend. The format is largely similar to the VFX bake-off, with each film getting a short introduction provided by Academy moderators (At the VFX bake-off, the VFX artists themselves provide the intro), followed by a 10 minute reel highlighting the makeup work of the contending film, and finally wrapping up with a short Q&A with the makeup artists in contention. The presentation of the films is in alphabetical order. After the bake-off, the Makeup Branch is invited to select their picks for the nomination and submit their ballots before leaving (or remotely if they are watching through live-stream on the Academy website). Click below to read my thoughts from the evening.
On this Thanksgiving holiday, I want to take a moment to give thanks. Thank you to my family who has supported me from day one on this journey of Next Best Picture, even when it means less time spent with them and more time at the cinema. Thank you to my friends who also provided similar support and have been my go-to for when I needed an opinion on tough decisions. Thank you to the NBP staff who have provided the website with some amazing content, from their reviews to podcast contributions, interviews, articles and more. I want to say thank you to all of their friends and family as well. Which leads me to the most important thing to be thankful for and that is you. Thank you to the fans who have provided their feedback, sent in their requests/questions/thoughts and ideas. Thank you for spreading the word and telling your friends/family about us over the last year and a half. We are committed to bringing you nothing but the best awards season content we possibly can and we have a few more surprises in store as we continue to grow with your help. I hope you all enjoy this day with your friends and family. Know that from all of us at NBP...you are our friends and family and we are forever thankful for all that you've done. Happy Thanksgiving to you all. Sincerely, Matt Neglia CEO of Next Best Picture

From the team here at Next Best Picture, we wish all of you a Happy Fourth Of July! Be sure to check below for a poll and tell us "Which Film Do You Like To Watch On The Fourth Of July?" Thank you, be safe and have fun! By Matt Neglia It all comes down to this. In less than a week, the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences will announce the nominations for the 89th annual Academy Awards. We here at Next Best Picture have done our best to predict all 24 categories (Which can be found below) but now we want to hear what you think will get nominated.
Please take these next couple of days to enter into our contest to predict this year's Oscar Nominations. The winner will receive a random free digital copy of a movie and of course some insane bragging rights. The winner will be contacted by email if he/she has the highest number of correct nominations. In the event of a tie, the winner will be chosen randomly. Please check out our predictions below for reference and happy predicting! By Matt Neglia It's amazing really. What started off as a modest film blog called NegsBestThing.com, has transformed over these past couple of months into NextBestPicture.com. It's been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life to hear the positive feedback and criticism also, to make the site better. This may have been a rough year for us all in many different ways. Whether it be politically, socially, personally or even if you felt underwhelmed by the year in film itself, 2016 for me, will always stand out as the year that I created something that I'm proud of and will continue to keep running for as long as my life allows it.
Special thanks goes out to my parents, my friends, family and co-workers. Also special shout outs to JD Duran, Brendan Cassidy, Erik Anderson, Clayton Davis, Jason Michael, Lee Brady, DJ Valentine and of course my Next Best Picture family...Will, Kristen, Michael and Mike. Without all of your advice, collaboration, love and support, I would not be where I am today, in a position where in 2017 Next Best Picture will become an LLC and we take everything from film, to the awards season and more to the next level. And last but not least, thank you to all of you, the fans. Thank you for helping to spread the word of Next Best Picture over the course of this year by reading the reviews, listening to the podcasts, purcahsing from the store, posting on the forums, and following on social media. It's been completely overwhelming and hopefully a simple thank you will suffice. With that said... Happy New Year Everyone! You can follow Matt and hear more of his thoughts on the Oscars and Film on Twitter at @NextBestPicture By Matt Neglia We here at Next Best Picture are deeply saddened to hear of the tragic loss of Carrie Fisher who passed away today at age 60. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends.

By Matt Neglia Just in time for the holidays this year, we have added exclusive merchandise clothing and other items to the Store on NextBestPicture.com.
Along with all of the "purchase" and amazon links you see throughout the site, all of this new merchandise is a very helpful way for you to support Next Best Picture by spreading the word and helping us to maintain the site. We appreciate any support and/or feedback from you. Thank you.

Today we are launching a "Historical Reviews" section on NextBestPicture.com where we will be asking our dear readers in the "Polls" section which film they would like to see us review next from a previous year in film history on the site. This will be updated regularly.
Please feel free to check out some of the reviews we have already posted on the site down below and vote on the next one! By Matt Neglia We now have a Store Page added to NextBestPicture.com
The purpose of the page is to provide a section of the site where you can help us out by making a purchase (Or purchases) through Amazon.com. Going to the movies as consistently and frequently as we do can get expensive over time and any help that we can receive from our amazing readers and listeners is greatly appreciated. More additions will be coming to the store such as exclusive merchandise and special giveaways. We've been on the web for about a week now and the response to our forums, podcast, articles and reviews has been nothing short of overwhelmingly positive. Thank you so much from all of us here at Next Best Picture for the support and feel free to leave us a suggestion or provide us feedback on how we can make your experience better as we press on with the 2016 Awards Season and beyond. - Matt N. By Matt Neglia I have to say, I'm pretty excited about this one!
NextBestPicture.com has introduced a "Forums" section in the main menu which will allow you to create a user account and interact with us on the site to chat about the Oscars and anything else pertaining to film! If you would like to be in on the conversation surrounding the current awards race, click on the link below and it will take you to the new forums page! Any and all feedback is appreciated. Thank you. If you are here due to being redirected from NegsBestThing.com let me first come right out and say thank you. Thank you for taking what has always been a passion of mine and helping it grow over these past couple of months into something even bigger than I ever expected.
My hope is that this new site now known as NextBestPicture.com will serve the same purpose as NegsBestThing.com did for you and even more so! We still have film reviews, podcasts and plenty of articles to come. You will find that this new website will have a heavy focus on the Awards Season and the films contained within that time frame. Regular reviews of other films will continue and there are plenty of other surprises in store. Whether you are new here or not, please feel free to browse around and visit out Connect Page to send any feedback or suggestions. One again, thank you. - Matt |
