I saw 120 new releases in 2017 either in theaters or at home. As a result, I don’t have any predominant blindspots to note. However, I do want to mention my honorable mention: mother! Watching "mother!" was like watching mud get tracked in after mopping the floor. It was like working your booty off on a project at work and then having to turn it over to someone else to pick apart and do differently. It was like the twinge of frustration you feel when you just want to have a private conversation with someone you love and people won't leave you alone to finish your thought. Oh and did I mention, I dig this movie? Jennifer Lawrence also happens to give the best performance of her career in it. Ok. Now, with that out of the way, click below to see my Top 10 films of 2017.

One of the most important guilds of the year, the Producers Guild Of America (PGA) have announced their winners for the best of 2017. Last year's winner was "La La Land" and the year before that was "The Big Short," both of Which are the only two since the preferential ballot has been introduced to not win Best Picture at the Oscars. Which film will won this year? Click below to see the winner.
By Ryan C. Showers
This year’s Oscar race for Best Picture is beginning to resemble 2015’s, where “The Revenant,” “Spotlight,” and “The Big Short” duked it out for the top prize. Not one of these films checked off all the boxes to win, the precursor winners were split almost evenly, and an Oscar stat was broken (“Spotlight” won Best Picture with just one other win, Best Original Screenplay). This year, the three films at the front of the pack, allegedly, are “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” “The Shape of Water,” and “Lady Bird,” and the same three things are happening/could happen. Before the Academy used a preferential style of voting, it was easier to predict the Oscars based on which film was winning the precursors: Screen Actors Guild, Producers Guild, and Directors Guild awards. But now, it’s changed, so when even a film democratically captures the most votes, it could still lose to a film that has the most consensus support – a film that everyone, at least, likes and was most likely placed in the number 2 or 3 slot in in a majority of voters ranked lists.

It goes without saying that Paul Thomas Anderson is one of the greatest filmmakers working today and he has easily become one of the greatest of all time. No matter how you chose to refer to him, PTA, P.T. Anderson, or any number of other possible combinations, there is no doubt that the man is a downright genius. Recreating different time periods with palpable detail, creating character dramas that force us to reflect on our own personal lives, this director is fantastically unique in his cinematic approach. And his latest film, "Phantom Thread," is no different. With the nationwide release of "Phantom Thread" occurring this weekend we here at NBP have decided to rank his filmography. You can also go here to our weekly poll to tell us your favorite Paul Thomas Anderson film. So without further ado here is, Paul Thomas Anderson's entire filmography ranked!

Yesterday, in Part 1, we covered what would be new at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival. Now, on Part 2, we here at Next Best Picture are previewing our most anticipated films of Sundance 2018. Watch for our reviews of these films (From myself, Matt & Will) as well as many other titles showing during the film festival January 18-28th. We focused on feature-length US films that are either premiering or competing in the US Dramatic category. Although we look forward to catching some selections out of the World Premiere, Spotlight and Documentary categories, we are focusing on films with the potential to be strong players in the 2018 Oscar race. Films like “Death of Stalin," “You Were Never Really Here," “Foxtrot," and “The Rider” that have premiered at other festivals, may be part of our watches and reviews but are not part of this list. Lastly, releases such as “A Futile and Stupid Gesture” that already have January/February wide release dates scheduled, are not part of this list. The administration of Sundance takes a great deal of effort to minimize preliminary buzz as much as possible. What makes Sundance unique is that it is about the discovery of film and the titles that come out of nowhere and blow us away, like "The Big Sick," “Mudbound” and “Call Me By Your Name” in 2017. As a result, you stand the chance of seeing movies at Sundance that never even get a wide release and that is part of the adventure. Click below to see our Top 7 most anticipated films of the 2018 Sundance Film Festival in no specific order.
